Last time I told you about the cyst and that things may get put on hold if it was producing over a certain level of hormones. I did a blood test and was waiting for the results – I had been told that the nurse would call and let me know after two hours, but she never did. This is what happened next.

Well, after waiting for what seemed like hours, I called the clinic and they’ve just called me back. All good news – my levels were 80 and since anything under 150 is OK, I can start injections tonight. Hooray!! Relieved. But also starting to get worried about how to inject. I must now watch the video and get ready to inject. The eggs are on!

So… I tried to do the first injection at exactly 9pm, but that didn’t work… I think I made it around 9:10pm so not too bad (hopefully).
I didn’t watch the entire video beforehand as I had planned, because I was chatting to my flatmate and lost track of time. And then I ended up panicking twice, because it was the first time I had to do it… I filmed the whole thing, so if you like you can watch me struggle while I try to do it.
My first panic happened because in the instructions video (which I was watching as I was doing it) they were talking about checking the liquid in the injection pen and looking for air bubbles, but I couldn’t see any liquid! So I stopped and called a friend who had done this to check what the hell was going on and why my pen was bloody faulty. She said this was fine and you can’t see the liquid… So I continued following the instructions on the video. And sure enough, the liquid came out after I selected the dosage. Or at least it looked like it did. Great job me!
Now came panic number two – I thought I saw an air bubble. OMG. Can’t these kill you? I’m pretty sure they can. The video said something about this, so I quickly tried to follow their instructions and what do you know – I managed to get rid of it! Hooray! After a moment’s celebration I was ready to inject. This was surprisingly easy, but I’m not sure I waited enough time with the needle inside my stomach before I took it out. I can’t believe they’re letting me do this all alone… I’m totally going to fuck this up…
Finally, I accidentally didn’t put the cap back on the needle before I took it off and threw it away in the special needle bin. Oops.
So if you’re watching this at home, kids, don’t do what I did! Watch the entire video beforehand (I watched half) and don’t just count on your memory from watching the nurse show you how to inject in the morning. Also, don’t procrastinate and get caught up chatting to your flatmate while she boils eggs for her dinner when really you should be in your room focused on freezing your eggs. Anyway, it’ll be better tomorrow, I promise. But hey, I did it! I’ve injected myself all by myself. Now it suddenly feels like this is actually happening. My little eggs are growing. First injection down, loads more to go. Let’s hope I don’t screw this up!
Here is a video showing me after I called the nurse and then doing the first injection. Warning – it’s long. That’s because it took me ages to do the injection. And I may or may not look like an idiot while I do it. Enjoy.
